The Executive Board of the European Central Bank (ECB) has appointed three Directors General to senior leadership roles. Roland Straub has been appointed as Director General of Monetary Policy, Christophe Kamps as Director General of International and European Relations, and Petra Senkovic as Director General of Legal Services.
The appointments of Mr. Straub and Mr. Kamps will take effect from 1 July 2026, and Ms. Senkovic will assume her role on 1 November 2026.
ECB President Christine Lagarde stated, “These three outstanding colleagues have decades of invaluable experience, and the Executive Board and I look forward to working with them as we deliver on our mandate.”
Roland Straub will oversee the Directorate General Monetary Policy, responsible for preparing for the Governing Council’s meetings on interest rates and related policies. He succeeds Massimo Rostagno, who retired. Mr. Straub joined the ECB in 2006 and is currently Deputy Director General Market Operations. He previously served as Counsellor to ECB Presidents and held roles at the ECB and the International Monetary Fund. He holds a master’s degree in economics from Goethe University Frankfurt and a PhD from the European University Institute in Florence.
Christophe Kamps will lead the Directorate General International and European Relations, which formulates the ECB’s policy positions on international and European issues and coordinates international engagement. He succeeds Isabel Vansteenkiste. Mr. Kamps joined the ECB in 2005 and is currently Acting Director General of Monetary Policy. He previously served as Deputy Director General Monetary Policy and led key projects including the ECB’s Strategy Review. He holds master’s degrees from the University Paris IX-Dauphine and the University of Cologne, and a PhD from the University of Kiel.
Petra Senkovic will head the Directorate General Legal Services, starting on 1 November 2026. She will succeed Chiara Zilioli, who will retire at the end of October. Ms. Senkovic is currently Director General Secretariat and Secretary to ECB decision-making bodies, with previous roles including Deputy Director General Legal Services. She holds a master’s in European law from the College of Europe in Bruges, a PhD from Sorbonne University, and is admitted to the Paris bar.
