The Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB) has announced that the Department of Labour Inspection (TEE), responsible for occupational safety and health, conducted inspections during a pan-European online sales control campaign in Cyprus.
The inspections targeted online shops selling chemical products, including supermarkets, DIY stores, and large department stores. Products inspected included household cleaners, paints, adhesives, inks, pool chemicals, car care products, building materials, e-liquids, air fresheners, and more.
The campaign found a high non-compliance rate of 80% with current legislation regarding chemical products sold online.
Under European Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 (CLP Regulation), online store websites must be properly designed and include hazard information for each chemical product. This information can be provided via product labels or accompanying text, clearly visible and accurately reflecting the label.
Additionally, this hazard information must be provided in Greek before purchase completion, ensuring consumers are fully informed of potential risks and safe use measures.
All economic operators involved are advised to take necessary measures to comply with these provisions. Failure to do so may result in administrative sanctions.
More information is available in the relevant form and on the Technical Chamber of Greece website. For clarifications, contact the Department of Labour Inspection at 22405611 or 22405609.
