The European Central Bank (ECB) will participate in Frankfurt’s Night of the Museums on Saturday, 25 April 2026, opening its premises in the Ostend district to the public. The event features guided tours, contemporary art, architecture, and public programmes.
Visitors can choose between two guided tours: one focusing on contemporary art from the ECB’s collection, including Thomas Bayrle’s “Frankfurters” installation, and another exploring the architecture and site-specific works of the historic Grossmarkthalle and its integration into the ECB’s main building, designed by Coop Himmelb(l)au.
Additional activities include exploring the ground floor of the Grossmarkthalle at visitors’ own pace, visiting the ECB Visitor Centre, enjoying live jazz music, attending a talk with Dr. Konrad Elsässer, and participating in interactive quizzes about art and the ECB’s work.
Public access is limited to the Grossmarkthalle and its associated areas. Registration is required from 7 to 21 April. More information and registration details are available on the event website.
Art and architecture are central themes, with permanent site-specific works by Giuseppe Penone, Thomas Bayrle, Liam Gillick, and OKO, engaging themes such as time, growth, structure, and systems. The historic Grossmarkthalle, completed in 1928 by architect Martin Elsaesser, features an open interior and now hosts the ECB’s public activities.
