The European Central Bank (ECB) has published consolidated banking data as of end-December 2025, covering 332 banking groups and 2,292 stand-alone credit institutions and subsidiaries operating in the EU. The data are compiled on a group consolidated basis and include nearly 100% of the EU banking sector’s balance sheet.

The aggregate total assets of EU-headquartered credit institutions increased by 1.6%, from €32.97 trillion in December 2024 to €33.50 trillion in December 2025.

During the same period, the aggregate non-performing loans ratio remained stable at 1.97%.

The aggregate return on equity was 9.3%, and the Common Equity Tier 1 ratio was 16.42% as of December 2025.

The dataset provides detailed indicators on profitability, efficiency, balance sheet composition, liquidity, asset quality, capital adequacy, and solvency. Most data are based on International Financial Reporting Standards and European Banking Authority standards, with some small and medium-sized institutions applying national standards.

The published figures include some revisions to past data. For further information, media inquiries can be directed to Benoit Deeg at +49 172 1683704.
