Final public consultation on restricting the use of PFAS chemicals

The Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB) informs that the Department of Labour Inspection (TEE), responsible for occupational safety and health, has announced the launch of a European public consultation regarding the ban on the use of Perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in chemical mixtures and articles.

Industries using PFAS include food contact materials, textiles, leather goods, building materials, electronics, firefighting foams and clothing, food processing, and medical equipment.

The consultation focuses on the socio-economic impact of a potential ban and the effect of PFAS restrictions on various sectors of the economy.

Businesses involved in manufacturing, importing, and distributing, as well as the general public, can submit comments or data until 25 May 2026 through the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) website:

https://ec.europa.eu/consultation/runner/echa_pfas_seac_do_consultation

Following the public consultation, the final discussion and vote on the restriction at the European level will take place.

Comments can address key issues, suggest solutions (such as the availability of substitutes and the need for additional transition time), and provide relevant data.

Additional information and materials about the proposed restriction are available on ECHA’s website:
