Health service providers call for government action on nursing shortages

On 31 March 2026, an extraordinary meeting of private sector health service providers was held at the initiative of the Federation of Employers and Industrialists (OEB). The meeting focused on the acute shortage of nursing staff and potential response measures.

The Minister of Health, Mr. Neophytos Charalambidis, attended and informed participants about ongoing actions and solutions promoted by the government to resolve the issue.

The Minister acknowledged the severity of the problem, estimated at around 600 nurses, and stated that specific measures for short-term relief and a permanent, definitive solution will be studied.

After the Minister’s departure, the participants unanimously agreed to review the implementation of any immediate measures, allowing additional time for government action.

OEB and health service providers submitted responsible suggestions that do not negatively impact nurses. They call on the state to fulfill its responsibilities towards patients and the health ecosystem.
