July 21, 2026
The Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB) announces that, according to the Tax Department, the mandatory payment of rents related to immovable property within Cyprus will be implemented from July 1, 2026.
This obligation stems from article 48A of the Tax Assessment and Collection Law L.4/1978, introduced as part of the tax reform.
Under the new regulation, rent payments must be made only through the following methods:
The requirement applies to all natural and legal persons, regardless of the amount of rent or the type of property use (professional, commercial, or other).
Rent beneficiaries in Cyprus are not permitted to accept rent payments in any way other than the prescribed electronic methods.
OEB members involved in paying or collecting rents are advised to ensure their procedures comply with this legislative requirement.
For further information or clarifications, members can contact the OEB Business Development Department.
