The Cyprus Furniture and Woodworking Industry Association (PASYVEX) held a meeting with the Director General of the Ministry of Education, Mr. Marios Panayides, and the Director of Secondary Technical, Vocational Education and Training, Dr. Elias Markatzis.
The purpose of the meeting was to present PASYVEX’s proposal for creating a university curriculum in Wood Technology, Design, and Furniture Industry. The goal is to develop a new generation of scientists to meet the needs of the Cypriot industry.
This initiative continues PASYVEX’s long-standing actions in education. Previously, PASYVEX initiated the program “CNC – CNC Design and Technology – Carpentry Industry” at Post-Secondary Institutes of Vocational Education and Training (MIEEK), providing modern technical skills for industry employment.
The success of this program demonstrated the benefits of collaboration between education and industry. Currently, industry demands are higher, requiring university graduates with expertise in design, wood technology, manufacturing, and innovation.
Therefore, PASYVEX prepared and presented a comprehensive proposal to the Ministry of Education to establish Cyprus’s first university curriculum in the furniture and carpentry sector.
PASYVEX actively works to address sector challenges by submitting proposals and collaborating with relevant authorities to create better prospects for businesses, employees, and young people interested in the industry.
