Urgent need for about 600 additional nurses in Cyprus

An independent study commissioned by the Ministry of Health confirms that Cyprus needs approximately 600 additional nurses immediately. This need has been documented for two years by the Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB) and is increasing rapidly, affecting patient care and health service quality.

The government and Parliament are urged to address this ongoing issue without delay. While incentives to attract nursing students are helpful, they will take 4-5 years to show results, which does not meet the current urgent needs.

OEB has proposed immediate measures to resolve the problem. The findings of Dr. Yfantopoulos’ study eliminate any argument against implementing prompt and effective solutions. Immediate decisions and actions are expected.
