The scheme called “Cyprus digital nomad visa” was approved on the 15th of October 2021 by the Council of Ministers with a maximum allowance of 100 residence permits, which was then increased to 500 on 3rd of March 2022.

The scheme’s objective is to allow non-EU nationals to perform their work in Cyprus remotely, for a short period of time. Nationals from non-EU and non-EEA countries, can move with their families to Cyprus to perform their work, only if the company they work is registered abroad and allows remote work without applying limitations on the location.

 Who can apply:

  1. Non-EU or non-EEA nationals who are given the option to work remotely by their employer using telecommunications technology.
  2.  Non-EU or non-EEA nationals who have an employment contract with a company that is registered outside Cyprus, and it allows working remotely without restrictions on the place they are.
  3. Non-EU or non-EEA nationals who are self-employed offering services remotely to clients located abroad.
  4. Non-EU or non-EEA nationals who earn a monthly salary amounting to € 3500.

People who satisfy the above requirements and are granted a Digital Nomad residence permit will have right of residence in Cyprus for one year, which they may renew for a further period of 2 years.

Furthermore, their Family members can move to Cyprus as well, for the same period as the Digital Nomad but without being able to work or perform any economic activity
in Cyprus.[1]

If Digital Nomads live in the Republic of Cyprus for one of more periods which exceed the total of 183 days in the same year, they can be considered as tax residence of Cyprus, only if they are not tax residence in any other country.

[1] Family Members:

  • Spouse/partner in a civil union and underaged children.
  • Need to obtain a temporary residence permit following a specific procedure.

The examination period for the eligibility of an individual is between 5 – 7 weeks.
